Arrival

Kapit is a riverine community, not connected to Sarawak’s inter-city road system, though there are local town roads and timber tracks.Long Boats

Kapit offers good accommodation for those who wish to stay overnight before their departure upriver. At the time of writing, we can recommend the Greenland Inn.

In Kapit, visit the native market, historic Fort Sylvia, Kapit Museum and the Malay Kampong Baru, or simply stroll around to enjoy the unique multi-lingual, multi-cultural flavor of this unique riverine community.

Let us know your special interests, amount of time available, and planned arrival date. We will propose seasonally appropriate alternatives to meet your desires.

Please understand that river levels in Kapit District rise and fall quite unpredictably. River conditions may require last minute changes to planned itineraries – but alternatives are always available.

Kapit is reached in less than three hours by numerous passenger express boats plying the Rejang river from Sibu. Malaysian Airlines serves Sibu from Kuching, Miri and other major cities. Express boats also ply between Belaga and Kapit, water levels permitting.

For boat safety and reliability, we recommend the two Husqvarna expresses which, at the time of writing, depart Sibu and Kapit non-stop at 7:40 am and 12:45 pm each way daily except during Chinese New Year.

While travelers may fly both ways, they miss much of the unique character of Kapit and riverine Sarawak if they do not travel by express boat on the Rejang.
