Recommended PreparationsWhile upriver, communication with the outside world except, perhaps, by longboat messenger is, for the most part, impossible. Please plan accordingly. We provide standard-sized raincoats for small groups. Bring an umbrella for greater rain and sun protection. We suggest that you pack using a duffle bag or backpack. Your excess baggage can be stored in our office. Plastic bags should be used to protect things which ought not get wet and to separate wet things from dry. We provide a tarp to cover baggage in the longboat, but longboats do get wet nonetheless! Pack quick drying clothes. Most visitors use short sleeved shirts unless they need greater sun or insect protection. Please bring your own quick drying bath towel. Expect to be taking your bath as natives do, two or three times a day, using a bucket or dunking in the river. Men bathe in opaque underwear or swimming trunks. Women should carry a modest swimming suit or sarong, and expect to keep covered while bathing. Squat toilets are usually available. We bring toilet paper. It is often necessary to walk in shallow streams. Please plan your footgear accordingly. Do not expect to buy footwear over size 10 locally. Ankle high rubber soled swimming or diving shoes are ideal; sandals which wont pull off in mud will do as will a spare pair of quick drying sneakers. The natives, of course, go barefoot, but many westerners cannot tolerate rocks and stones underfoot. Please bring your own medications, sun screen and toiletries. If you have a personal requirement dietary, health, privacy, walking or floor-sitting difficulty which might not be adequately served by our usual arrangements, please tell us in advance. We will try to work out a suitable alternative to meet your needs! We like to meet larger groups up to eighteen in Sibu. Then we can assist you in getting to the express boat and accompany you to Kapit. We extend such accommodation to smaller parties by special arrangement. Also read the tour pages carefully for other helpful information. Now, if you are ready to go on the voyage, please read more about our company and how to get in touch with us. |
